2023 Vintage

A blend of grapes from five different parcels – Orangerie, Hillside, Kasteelsig, Paarderberg & Waterval – all small farms dotted across the Swartland & made whole by their togetherness. A combination of juice, 7 blissful days on the skins and some cherishing yielded an orange that, much like the album art its bottle bears, is greater than the sum of its parts.

Vintage tasting notes: A colour of summer touched water into wine...

Specs

Orign: W.O. Swartland

Components: 100% Chenin

Soil/Climate: Decomposed granite & shale / dry, unirrigated Chenin Blanc

Tasting Notes: A colour reminiscent of summer touched water turned to wine. Green herbs & rooibos tea on the nose give way to a solid palate of sundried peaches, apricots, almond skins, lemons, melons & ripe naartjies with that rooibos coming back to finish it off.

Wine is an agricultural product. Just as with food, highly processed wines contain additives to mask flavor deficiencies in the base ingredient: grapes. Poorly farmed grapes that relies on additives and harsh chemicals will produces grapes that will inherently need additives, like sugar and acid, to make good tasting wine. Why apply harmful pesticides and herbicides when we know this kills soil microbiology, the very thing that assists in plant nutrition and grape flavor? In the vineyard we farm for healthy soils and vine longevity rather than high yields.
